Mission Statement:
Our purpose is to support and encourage every woman victimized by abuse to break the crippling tradition of silence and to take command of her story and transform it into personal power. The imperative of Women in Hiding Press is to speak the unspeakable, to articulate through literary voice, artistic expression, and social challenge the rampant but dismissed reality of covert violence committed against girls and women and its unseen, devastating consequences. Women In Hiding Press promotes the personal, spiritual and social necessity—and responsibility—of speaking what is wrongly regarded in our society as unspeakable by women not served by mainstream publishers. We encourage victims of sexual trauma to illuminate and educate society through stories with strong social commentary. These voices have the ability to dispute myths and validate victims of sexual violence and other forms of abuse by illustrating with raw clarity the harrowing details hidden beneath society's sanitized labels of rape, incest, and abuse, that ignore and deny horrors experienced by victims of such ordeals and advance the truth while promoting deeper understanding of women's lives. The mission of Women in Hiding Press is to give essential structure and accurate definition to this violence committed at the edge of perception. Our primary goal is to negate the restrictive and prejudiced cultural and religious attitudes, and arbitrary social criterion for defining instances of sexual, physical and emotional violence against girls and women. Women in Hiding Press recognizes the abuse suffered by boys and men and believe any progress in articulating abuse suffered by girls and women will benefit them also. We strongly encourage anyone who has suffered from overt and/or covert abuse to speak. ______________________________ |
